The Vale of Fire

The Vale of Fire

The vale of fire, a title which strikes fear into the hearts of many within the east. Legends tale of a moment in history many centuries ago; a time suffocating from the grasp of brutal wars, famine, disease, and poverty. Clans who suffered these dark ages walked equally dark paths, as they sought deliverance through violence. Ōkutātoru was the name of a particularly violent and powerful clan, having conquered and asserted rule over 3 additional clans. Feeble clans such as the Hinohebi were fearful of the Ōkutātoru, praying to the mighty lung dragon for protection each and every waking night. No matter how much these clans had prayed, their pleads for help fell on deaf ears. The lung dragon failed to shield them from the Ōkutātoru‘s wrath; as one by one they all succumbed to similar fates. Hinohebi however didn’t fall as the rest did, and was notoriously rebellious to the Ōkutātoru‘s rule. Their retaliations only prompted the clan leader to set their villages aflame, smoldering cinders and ash clogging darkened skies as a rampant fire tragically tore Hinohebi asunder. For a moment, the Ōkutātoru clan had lived peacefully, now having attained all they could ever want. Serenity welcomed the lands and their people with open arms, yet one fateful night all would vanish. Mysteriously, the Ōkutātoru clan and its people had disappeared without a sound over the course of one night, remnants of what use to be slowly deteriorating... People of the neighboring clans claim to have seen a mighty beast soaring through the skies that night, a long creature decorated with white and black scales, donning red feathers as well as markings. It‘s bizarre appearance bared vague resemblance to the fabled lung dragon, which has led many to believe that the cries of the perishing Hinohebi awakened this beast from a deep slumber.
