Lake-Skimmer

These extremely odd amphibians can be found in almost every lake, pond, rivers, streams and even subterranean lakes. They get their name from the fact that they'll skim organic lake-scum from the surface of their territory with their mane of stiff and rough fur, and they do this to grow algae on their mane an they do this in case their food sources run a bit dry, as they'll gnaw off chunks of their mane feasting on the now algae-rich fur. They reach 5 feet in length and they stand at 4 feet tall including their mane, and females are even longer at 7 feet in length, but the size of the mane remains much larger in the males. They are primarily opportunistic omnivores that will eat almost everything in their habitats including fish, weeds, insects, birds, amphibians, rotten wood, algae, other Lake-Skimmer eggs and even other smaller and weaker Lake-Skimmers. During the afternoon one can find multiple Lake-Skimmers on the shoreline sunbathing and making burrows if they need to hide, but sometimes if 2 larger Lake-Skimmers encounter each other a violent fight may break out between them and these fights may last over 3 days. One of their many odd behaviors is that they'll become incredibly active during a full Blue Moon, and this goes so far that they have a near paranormal sense of this event, as even when they are asleep or in their burrows they'll awaken soon after the moons reach their highest point in the sky. Much like snakes they have 3 heat-pits on their nose which helps them when they are hunting in incredibly murky or dark waters, they also have a extremely lengthy tongue that is covered in a sticky mucus that they use to ensnare insects and other food items. When in the water they can move at speeds of 35 M.p.h and on land they can run around at 21 M.p.h. The Mountain Lake-Skimmer is a rare subspecies that live in high altitude habitats and they'll commonly use pre-made muddy paths to move around their territories.
